About the destination: Since medieval times until this day, Santiago de Compostela is considered a major destination for pilgrims. This holy city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Situated in far northwestern Spain, 100km north of the Portuguese border, Santiago is the capital of the autonomous region of Galicia. The city harbors Spain’s most famous church. La Catedral is majestic, a harmonious melding of styles and eras beneath two soaring towers. Just inside the main entrance is the Pórtico de la Gloria, one of the outstanding ensembles of Romanesque sculpture in Europe. Near the cathedral, there is the Museo do Pobo Galego, museum of the Galician people, housed in the Monasterio de Santo Domingo, contains replicas of ancient Celtic ruins. Nearly half of Santiago’s population is made up of rowdy students itching to have a good time. Bars and pubs can be found throughout the medieval streets of the old town and along Calle Santiago de Chile. The nights have special light in the streets of Santiago de Compostela. The moonlight makes the town a timeless scenario where landmarks bring out the city’s most beautiful and nostalgic side. And for those looking for atmosphere, Santiago’s nights are eternal.

About the destination: It is part of the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia, a region of vast green landscapes with a rich Celtic and Roman heritage which keeps, still today, a mystic and magic allure. Today La Corunna is a modern city, which combines its traditional agricultural and fishing industries with new successful industries, such as fashion and textile. Situated beside the Atlantic Ocean, A Coruña is a historic city whose history has maintained close links with its old fishing and commercial port. The peninsula on which the Old City stands also contains the Tower of Hercules, one of the symbols of the city, which is an interesting Romanesque collection of streets, squares and medieval churches.

4. Lugo
Stay
About the destination: Lugo is a city in Galicia and is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls, which reach a height of 10 to 15 m along a 2117m circuit ringed with 71 towers. The walk along the top is continuous round the circuit, and features ten gates. These 3rd century walls are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The bridge over the Minho is essentially of Roman date, though many repairs over the centuries have effaced its Roman character. Inside the walls, the city conserves quiet pedestrian streets, wide squares and spacious gardens, where buildings such as the Cathedral, the Archiepiscopal Palace, and the City Hall stand out. But the historic quarter also houses some of the best restaurants in Galicia, where it is possible to sample the excellent fresh meats and fish which have earned Lugo's gastronomy recognized acclaim.
