Getting to Santa Elena usually involves a winding drive up mountain roads from destinations such as San José, La Fortuna, or the Pacific coast. Public buses, shuttles, and private transfers are readily available, though travel times can be longer than distances suggest. Once in town, taxis and local buses can take you to most attractions, but many lodges and tour companies include transportation.
