At 8:00 am, your guide will meet you at the reception of the hotel, where he will give you a briefing about this first day of the tour and then direct you to your tour vehicle where you will ride for an hour before you arrive in the Capital of Islam the city of Kairouan. At your arrival, your guide will walk you through the old Medina of Kairouan to the Great Mosque of Kairouan, located in the middle of the Medina and built by the Arab general Uqba Ibn Nafi in 670 AD. The site attracts thousands of local and international visitors for its magnificent architectural and spiritual value. The next visit is to the Aghlabid water site, where two large basins and a few cisterns have survived the centuries after they have served during decades of scarce drinking water resources. Lunch will be in the city of Gafsa, which is on the way to the southern city of Tozeur, the city of Palm trees (included). Before you check in your hotel of stay, you will hop on a 4x4 to discover the oasis, where you will drive through the desert and the occasional dry salt lakes to arrive at the mountain oasis of Chebika. On the way back to Tozeur, you will make a stop at the site of the Star Wars movie located in the middle of the Sahara Desert, which is only a couple of minutes from Tozeur, so you might get lucky and catch the sunset there!. A second site of the Star Wars movie is also open for visitors in Matmata. After lunch, the next stop is at the village of El Djem, home of the Roman amphitheatre of El Djem, the second largest Roman Amphitheatre, built around 18 centuries ago, and still, today exceptionally well preserved.
